UAM, as with many additive processes, has the ability to make unique geometry that is not feasible using conventional subtractive processes.
Conformal Channels – Because parts are built up layer by layer, unique 3 dimensional channels can be built into the structure. These channels are often used for conformal cooling to direct cooling a uniform distance from a surface.
Deep Sharp Channels – UAM is capable of making a very sharp radius on channel walls. Since the channel can be machined every .006 in. as it is built, the machine can use a very small radius end mill to make detailed cuts that are often only possible with EDM.
